Lac Placide was formed in october 1997 by Archiviste Demurger (bass) and Sénéchal Morin (guitars) who wanted to get out of the strict Metal music in which they met, and find a wider way to their musical expression. In order to integrate different visions to what was happening to be, Archiviste Demurger asked Rebouteux (drums) and Bourgmestre Ville (Keyboards) to complete the instrumental section of the band, especially for their various influences and spirit. Sa Majesté Roy and Rôdeur Renaud took their vocal place few weeks later… the meeting of metal, pop, jazz touch and progressive rock that now define Lac Placide’s music was on its way.

During summer 2000 the band recorded Welcome (You’re not), their first 3-tracks demo, which received good reviews in progressive underground publications and welcomes from public. Then came two years of work, composition and live performances (including a second place at the Stargate Festival at Le Gibus in Paris, a command for a creation and performance of a 30 minutes long piece for the Viry-Châtillon’s annual musical and light show…)

After a studio experience that left the band unsatisfied regarding the finished materials, the band, determinate to conserve his own production liberty, decided to record and produce his very first album out of the professional circle. So Away was born. The 7 compositions of Away show music full of influences, melodies, thick and atmospheric, basically born from the will of that 6 musicians to work together, making their differences the principal source of the musical research. The «Away» concept that separates each piece from the others, reveals that state of mind : the like of fantasy, imagination, of the freedom that it supposes, but also the like of the unforeseen and strangeness.

On April 2005, Lac Placide recorded a new demo called Freedom from their Hands. Two of the three tracks of this new production will figure on Lac Placide’s next album that the band is actually recording…
