| Source name : http://www.progressivewaves.com | Score : 9/10 (03.07.2006) | Il n'est pas commun de commencer une chronique par sa conclusion, mais mon impatience de chroniqueur m'autorise à déroger aux conventions et à ne pas attendre plus longtemps pour rendre un hommage appuyé aux gens qui le méritent. Alors n'ayons pas peur des mots : avec ce nouvel album, Nemo est admis définitivement dans la cour des grands du progressif français, et notamment aux côtés du plus célèbre d'entre eux, celui qui au début des années 70 nous étourdissait de "Cimetière des Arlequins", "Caricatures" et autres "Au-Delà du Délire". Nul doute qu'avec un contexte similaire, Nemo aurait aujourd'hui droit à une reconnaissance après laquelle il court toujours, malgré un "Prélude à la Ruine" déjà de toute première qualité.
Et avec "Si", première partie d'un concept tournant autour de la mort et des soucis de l'humanité en général, la bande à JPL confirme tout son talent, avec une cohérence supérieure à sa précédente réalisation. Là où "Prélude" pouvait présenter quelques longueurs dans sa deuxième partie, "Si" nous assène 1 heure de musique sans temps mort au cours de laquelle on retrouve les ingrédients habituels de la musique de Nemo : une section rythmique ultra-précise et imaginative, les guitares incisives de JPL qui se lâche même à faire du Métal (intro de "Miroirs" par exemple), un accompagnement de claviers toujours judicieux et puis ce que d'aucuns considèrent comme le point faible du groupe, à savoir un chant qui, dans un souci de recherche d'une expressivité maximale, a parfois tendance à flirter avec les limites de la justesse. Mais, dans le cas présent, ce point de détail n'affecte en aucune manière la qualité des cinq compositions proposées.
Difficile de décrire en détail chacune d'entre elles, l'inspiration de Nemo semblant en effet sans limite, tant dans la variété des ambiances tour à tour puissantes et délicates, que dans les thèmes musicaux et les arrangements somptueux. A ce titre, "Ici, Maintenant" est le parfait résumé de ce que le groupe est capable de condenser dans un titre au format "court". Impossible toutefois de passer sous silence les deux longues suites qui introduisent et clôturent l'album.
"Douce Mort" nous emmène dans un voyage musical introduit par une lente et ténébreuse montée en puissance, avant que la mise en place du thème principal plus enjoué n'entraîne l'auditeur dans un feu d'artifice où la délicatesse et la puissance des arrangements se succèdent dans un véritable bonheur auditif.
De son côté, "Apprentis Sorciers" déroule ses 20 minutes de diatribe contre les OGM en multipliant les ambiances progressives en tout genre et c'est ici que l'esprit du grand Ange semble avoir habité nos musiciens.
Alors oui, cet album est hautement recommandable et devrait figurer dans toute discothèque digne de ce nom. Nemo est un groupe rare à soutenir de toutes nos forces. Et que le temps risque de sembler long avant la publication de ... Si Partie 2.

All a must for music lovers, everywhere. Lovers of outstanding progressive music, made with so much conviction, it will make you wonder, why you have not heard of NEMO, until now? If this new album, do not find listeners everywhere, there must be something totally wrong, in the music business. This is once again, state of the art, when it comes to progressive music. It does not, get much better, than this
How do Nemo find the inspiration, to make an album, greater than their previous ? I think by being themselves, make the kind of music, they believe in and to have their heart with them, when doing it. Let’ s start with the cover art. Once again, it’s outstanding. When you take the time, to listen to the music, while you let your eyes, pass through the cover, it all make sense. It’ s beautiful and meaningful, at the same time. “Si” starts out very slowly and dreamy, with a track called “Douce Morte”. (I do believe, I for the first time, on a Nemo album, hear Mellotron?). Grand piano, keys, bombastic drums, guitar quietly in the back, chorus. Then like a lightning, it starts up with a bang. Great vocals and guitar hooks, from another planet. The keyboard solos, are ever so great and amazing. This is one killer track. Very progressive and tuff. Second track called “Ici, Maintenant”. Start up with great vocals and piano parts. Then it turns “Mortal” with fantastic drumming and guitar hooks/ solos. You can actually “taste” the guitar solos. This is the most quiet track on “Si”. But, it’ s very very progressive, in its own beauty. Amazing. Third track called “Miroirs”. This is the hardest track, but, at the same time, it’s very melodic and damn well arranged. With lush keyboards along side the amazing guitar solos and the fantastic bass lines. Which always is outstanding, when it comes to Nemo’ s albums. The heart of the band, one could say. Fourth track “Si”. Again, Nemo have made a classic track, filled with passion, power and a musicality seldom seen, these days in prog. All sounds, you can find on a keyboard, is inside of this track. Outstanding and rare. Fifth and final track’s “Apprentis Sorciers”. This is the track, that will prove to the world, what progressive music’ s all about. Start out kind of fusion like, to turn into a “monster”, of the finest progressive rock piece, I have heard in years. Once again, Nemo’ s ability as a band, shines through. Swirling guitar solos, (acoustic ones to), fantastic keyboards, drumming extraordinaire, bass lines/ solos made by the heart. Add to this, the amazing vocals/harmonies and violin. I do love, and adore the way, the keys sound on this track
Nemo’ s newest release is a dream come true. Should be heard by all. No exception, what so ever. You get about 1 hour, from one of the best, progressive rock bands today. They do progress from album to album. They do have made a unique album. Nemo is without doubt, one of the greatest progressive rock bands ever. Why? Because they do not slow down. They progress always
This is in their native language French. But, do not despair. You’ ll for sure feel and finally “understand” every single word, of this great and simply amazing concept album. Please, do not, let such a simple thing as language, and the meaning of words, keep you from Nemo’s latest. You’ ll be sorry you did. Me? I just sit here and wait for part II

This is as good as it gets, when it comes to progressive music. This is as good as it gets, when it comes to breaking new ground in creating sublime, utterly great and beautiful music. Period. |
