 | For this third album, THORK is a collective gathered around Sébastien FILLION, composer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (voices, guitars, bass, keyboards, Irish whistles, percussions, ethnic instruments and programming…). Notice that the man is also a writer (two novels published).
The album’s thread is a man-machine duality, presented under different shapes : in war time, trouble, souvenir, distance, etc… The man who lost his soul becomes a machine, and conversely the complex machine manages to judge, dream and imitate the man, reproducing or drawing lessons of his mistakes. From where the various voices effects, in order to make the two “characters” speaking. « Nula Jedan » means « Zero One » in bosnian, which is an allusion to the binary code present in the heart of modern technologies nowadays.
From the original THORK members, there’s still Claire NORTHEY (violin) and Samuel MAURIN (fretless bass, who just appears on one track). Philippe MAULLET (Syrinx) is the new drummer. Among the new arrivals, one must notice the presence of Arnaud FILLION « Arnito » (Sébastien’s twin brother) who plays cello and oud, and also various guests : Violette CORROYER (choirs on three tracks), Hugo QUILLET and Jérôme BLANC (brass section on two tracks), and Jérémie MAXIT (tablas on one track).
THORK’s way is definitivelly linked with studio’s work. NULA JEDAN is a CD filled with arrangements and sound experimentations, but it’s also – and this is the composer’s bias - the more accessible, and certainly the more mature album of the band.
