Sensitive to Light from France are a new band that has grown out of the ashes of popular group Saens. This former band had a reputation for producing intricate, symphonic and occasionally difficult music, and this tradition has continued to a certain extent with Sensitive to Light.
However, the band's masterstroke has been the recruitment of wonderful Scottish vocalist Jenny Lewis, giving this intricate music a warmth that might otherwise difficult. Imagine a vocalist that sounds like a cross between Heather Findlay and Rachel Jones, and you are almost there. Indeed the lush ballad "Carpe Diem" could almost BE classic Karnataka.
Elsewhere the music is symphonic, intricate and very varied, ranging from almost metallic power to gothic twists and detailed instrumental interplay, with guitar and moog solos often there but never overstaying their welcome.
Excellent stuff, requiring plenty of attention but well worth it! |
